Great tour of the Vatican and Roman Forum tour!
Great experience with our personal guides John and Enrica. They gave life and context to the Roman ruins and antiquities that we were able to see. They are also just fun people to interact with generally. Recommend In Rome Tours wholeheartedly.Three Great privately guided Rome tours
My family took three tours from In Rome Tours: On March 14, 2023 we took the Rome at night tour with Mario. Mario was very knowledgeable and energetic and told us the history of the Spanish steps, the rivalry between the two main architects at the time and we saw many beautiful structures in Rome like the Trevi fountain. Rome at night has its own beauty at night and this tour is much recommended. This tour is a walking tour and may be hard for the elderly and small children. On March 15, 2023 we took the Vatican tour with Cynzia, who was also amazing. She explained which religious figures are painted by the cloths or objects they are carrying and this helped to decode these religious paintings whose meaning were a mystery to me for many years until the explanation by Cynzia. Cynzia also told us the meaning of the nine main panels on the Cisteine Chapel, showing God forming light and day to the middle panels showing the creation of Adam and Eve, the temptation of the apple and banishment from Eden to the latter panels showing Noah's flood. This was the most intellectually stimulating tour due to the large amount of art and Cynzia giving meaning of the art. This tour has a lot of walking and was very difficult for my elderly mother but Cynzia was very kind for getting my mother a wheelchair and she also waited for us to catch up with her.
On March 16 2023 we went to the Forum, Colluseum and Palatine Hill tour with Luca. Luca is an archeologist and was perfect to explain the history of these three places. His explanation of the history of the places was very detailed and energetic. It was cool to see where Ceasar was assassinated in the Senate building. Luca was also willing to field questions and gave very detailed answers. The Palatine Hill has a lot of walking and climbing stairs and I let my elderly mother skip this portion of the tour. The only negative in this tour was that my mother's purse was pick pocketed in the Colloseum and she lost $580. We were able to find the missing wallet from her purse the next day at the carabenieri station at Cielomontana street with the money missing but the credit cards and drivers licence still present. They should be signs in the Coloseum warning of pickpockets like they have at the Louvre in Paris. This is not a fault of Luca nor that of In Rome Tours. This was the best tour company I have been to. It could be better by picking up people from the hotel and having the meeting place closer to the Vatican museum so elderly people don't need to walk too far. Otherwise it is a perfect tour company.
Vatican tour with Cynzia, Enthralling
This is simply the best tour I've ever been on. Cynzia was unbelievably knowledgeable. She answered every question with precise, detailed answers. She provided an unbelievable amount of historic context for each of the pieces we saw. I was impressed by the way she built up our "renaissance art alphabet" toolkit before we got to the Sistine chapel so that we had a better appreciation for what we were seeing. For someone coming in with very little knowledge or appreciation of renaissance art, I was impressed, moved, and enthralled. More than anything, I appreciated her deep knowledge of the personal history of each of the individual artists to help us understand how they developed their aesthetic over time. One note. The earsets were INVALUABLE. Every tour should include these. It allowed Cynzia "to be in our heads". And most importantly, we didn't have to strain to hear. No question in my mind that this helped us to maintain a high level of interest in the tour. I've never been a big believer in tours, but I am going to book an In Rome Tour for Florence (our next leg). Any reccomendations on the right tour guide?
Rome at Night with Gabriel
We took the Rome at Night tour with Gabriel. Pitch the fancy shoes and wear the comfortable ones. Our family, 2 daughters enjoyed the tour. Lots of walking, but Gabriel made it very entertaining and kept a comfortable pace. For our first visit to Rome, we thought this would be a great way to safely walk around and get acquainted with the city. Great choice. Gabriel pointed out a number of unique back alley points of interest that added a lot of color to Rome, in addition to the main attractions. It rained in buckets that night and Gabriel kept on without hesitation. Very memorable as we were all soaking wet afterwards and had very little company as all the smart people were inside. Well worth the money and I would encourage this group tour the first evening of opportunity. We felt very comfortable walking everywhere after this tour.Great Rome tour trip and best guide
This was my wife's first trip overseas and she was very nervous about the trip. InRomeTours was nothing short of spectacular. Due to bad weather in Atlanta our bags did not make it to Rome until the next day. My wife was very upset, but we met Josie our guide, that afternoon and she turned what was starting out as a disaster to one of the best days of our lives. Josie was so nice, knowledgeable and flexible. Peter had left a message at our hotel before we even arrived in Rome and was always responsive to our needs. We were so impressed we were recommending In Rome Tours to people we met on the ship, but were going to stay in Rome after we returned from the cruise. Do yourself a favor whether you are spending all your time in Rome our maybe cruising out of there, as we did. DO NOT book with the cruise ship as their services will herd you around like cattle. The cost for In Rome Tours is no more than those other guys and you will get the personnel service you need. We booked tours at our ports of call through the ship and my wife and I were very disappointed after our experience with Josie. I highly recommend InRomeTours and welcome your emails to tuttm@northwood.edu.Beautiful tours in Rome!
One of the most spectacular tourist attractions I have ever seen. You should pre-order tickets or visit with a private tour as often the waiting time is hours. I visited this with a tour guide from In Rome Tours who were fantastic and fast tracked me through hours of queuing in the rain. The tourist shop is ridiculously expensive but worth a look. Most informed Rome tour guide for our Vatican visit
I just wanted to add my review to others here. We had a wonderful guide who was very well informed and made our visit to to the Vatican. It was my 3rd visit and was my best by far. Our guide knew many interesting amusing and interesting facts which really made our visit to Rome. I can't recommend In Rome Tours enough! In Rome Tours was FANTASTIC... best way to know Rome!
We took a private 3 hour Historic Center Tour of Rome, with In Rome Tours. Our guide, Manuela, was really terrific!!! Not only was she thoroughly knowledgeable about everything we saw, but she was quite friendly and very accommodating as to what we wanted to see. Manuela was able to squeeze in so much in just three hours! We were very pleased with the cost of the tour - it was much lower than we had anticipated for a private tour - and we were also very impressed with the communications we received from Pete, the gentleman who arranged the tour for us. It was definitely worth every single penny!!! There is really no better way to see Rome than with a guide who was able to explain so much about the history of what it was we were looking at. We should have booked ALL of our tours with In Rome Tours! We took two other tours while we were in Rome with a company called Viator and they were AWFUL!!! We were VERY disappointed with Viator for the over-priced, under-informative tour of the Vatican, and the over-priced bus trip tour of Tuscany. I wish we knew about inrometours before we ever took those other two tours. What a waste of money they were. Live and learn.
Grazie, Manuela! And thank you, Pete... we were very happy with your service and will definitely recommend you to friends and family headed to Rome!
Superior In Rome Tour of the Vatican Museums
Despite living in Rome for 3 years I never visited the Vatican Museums so on a recent return trip to Italy, my husband and I booked a 3 hour tour with In Rome Tours. Our lovely British guide Josie met us at our hotel to escort us to the Vatican. Once inside, and as talking and presentations are not allowed in the Sistine Chapel, Josie began with a great introduction to Michelangelo's masterpiece and how it evolved, as we sat on the sunny terrace. Josie's background in History of Art and Education really showed in her interesting and informative presentation. It was really rewarding to be shown the most important and significant items in the museum by someone who clearly knows her stuff, so much better than a guide book. We had particularly requested to see the Raphael rooms so Josie duly gave us extra time there (not to be missed!) pointing out details we would have otherwise not have noticed.
With Josie's info fresh in our heads we reached the Sistine Chapel which was as spectacular as we'd hoped! We finished with time in St Peter's basilica and all too soon had to say good bye to lovely Josie, the three hours had flown by. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn about the most important pieces of this overwhelmingly vast museum from a very professional and friendly guide.
The best way to see Rome is with In Rome Tours of course!
We got a private tour of the colisseum, forum and other sites in ancient Rome. The experience was fantastic, it really brought the ruins to life. Our guide was so determined, she even continued educating us when a hailstorm broke out on Palatine Hill! (My wife and I, and the guide, took shelter under one of the Emporer's ceilings.) Highly recommended.Just book with In Rome Tours
The tour we undertook with three children was pefect for a family wanting to see the sights of Rome in the most hassle free manner. Our guide, Suzanne, managed to capture the spirit of Ancient Rome and bring it alive for the children whilst also providing a more in depth appreciation for the adults. Keeping the attention of 3 children was a difficult task which she managed expertly. The arrangements were easily made with In Rome Tours and we very much felt we had a tailored itinery rather than a standard tour. I would recommend In Rome Tours and Suzanne without hesitation. There's knowledgeable and then there's In Rome Tours!
Vatican (5-6hr tour) - our guide was Luca, he met the small group (12) pleasantly learning all of our names and a little about each of us. Luca took us swiftly inside bypassing the 2 hour queue for tickets and started the tour. Luca's knowledge absolutely astounded me and my friend along with others on the tour - the detail he knew about specific pieces of art work and the location in general was amazing. Luca skillfully lead us through the masses of artwork and sculptures stopping to discuss the most interesting and best artwork. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the Vatican and St Peters Bascilica - highly recommended tour from In Rome Tours, well worth the money!!Roman Forum and Coliseum tour
Ivana was an incredibly knowledgeable and informative guide. She is an archeologist by training and clearly loves her subject. And she loves giving tours! She used a book of images to help us visualize what the Forum would have looked like in ancient times - really changed our appreciation for what we were seeing. She was also great at engaging my thirteen year old son. And In Rome Tours was very accommodating when I asked to change the date of our tour. All in all, they couldn't have been better. Well worth the price of the tour!A private tour with In Rome Tours is worth every penny - the experience can never be matched by a big coach tour.
After our Imperial Forum Tour with John who was excellent, we booked the second Vatican tour with him (that tour ran to just over 4 hours so I did voluntarily pay an additional £30 directly to John). I also recommended him to a couple staying in our hotel. John was efficient, knowledgable and friendly, providing us with an abundance of information throughout the tour. His views were unbiased and he was also just good company. I was extremely pleased with customer care, which was much more customer focused, entrepreneurial and friendly than some of the other tour operators. This tour also confirmed for me that the amount of information, and level of efficiency and customer care you get from a private tour can never be matched by one of those big coach tours with dozens of people. In terms of what you get for your money, a private Rome tour with In Rome Tours is actually far better value.Borghese Gallery tour - Knowledgeable guide.
Our guide arrived at our hotel at the time promised. We took a cab to Galleria Borghese and our tickets had been pre-purchased which saved us a lot of time in line. Shane our guide from Ireland spoke perfect English as promised. We have been on tours with other operators where we had trouble understanding the guides. We spent 2 hrs viewing the art collection with excellent descripitions and commentary from Shane. He was extremely knowledgeable about all the art in the gallery. He planned our tour well as you only have two hours in the museum. It would have been easy to get off time and miss parts of the gallery. The Borghese tour was as advertised with no suprises.Wonderful Rome tours
Great tour guide, my son and I really enjoyed the underground section of the Colosseum. It really is a worthwhile experience, a must see!Pompeii tours direct from Rome
This was a perfect way to travel to Pompeii from Rome. No wasting time on a bus. The tour was perfect in length, we had a good amount of time at the ruins. This is the best way to make the most of your time while on vacation in Rome.Best Day Trip from Rome to Pompeii!
We had a wonderful day in Pompeii with In Rome Tours. The train to Naples was comfortable and not busy and getting down to Pompeii was simple enough. We were sent our tickets and that information was on the timetables in Napoli Piazza Garibaldi station which is directly beneath Napoli Centrale main station where the first train from Rome stopped. Pompeii today is a small modern town, quite typical of so many in Italy. The railway station is unremarkable and we walked to the meeting point and checked in for the tour. It was a two hours and 20 minutes exploration and our guide, an American Italian local and working archaeologist, was a real expert with an incredible eye for detail. Thank you Gloria for your absolutely superb tour!Back in Naples, In Rome Tours CS stayed with us on WhatsApp and guided us minute by minute to the best pizza we've EVER had, and we've been visiting Italy often in recent years. Thank you In Rome Tours! Very impressed.
